Alvin Lucier project

These pieces are based on the work and writing of experimental sonic artist and composer Alvin Lucier.  Using a printed text ‘sampled’ from ‘I am sitting in a room’, one of Lucier’s most prominent work, the exhibits consist of a series of replicated and ‘degraded’ text-images displayed in series to reveal how each replication registers incremental changes and chance abstractions as a result of repetitions of process.  This work accompanies an audio soundscape developed from translating the images into sound.  The pieces together create a multisensory experience of technology-assisted abstraction, based on both structured process and chance.
